Oh Savannah

With a banjo on my knee... oops wrong song or is there even a song oh nevermind lol. I just wanted to drop a short post today about a trip we made last week to Savannah, Georgia.  What a pretty town, busy, bustling, lots to do and very pretty. At least in the areas we went to.

Forsyth Park - Savannah, Georgia

Forsyth Park - Savannah, Georgia

We took a trolly tour around the town, which was great you could hop on and off at any one of 15 stops. Which we did a few times so each time we had a different driver and got a different take on what was in the areas.  One downside was I really wanted to see Forsyth Park and get to walk around there and actually see the area. That park however on Saturday was PACKED, SCAD had an event happening and it was about wall to wall people.  I was frustrated and left my hat on the trolly when we hopped off so it wasn’t quite as enjoyable as I had hoped. I’m not the best person for being in crowds, as big as I am and as claustrophobic I get really anxious in crowds. It’s a bit different when I am at an art fair because I’m not moving in and among the crowd but it moves around my booth.  Ok so the town, it was very interesting to me in it’s layout. I liked the small squares and the roads had to go around them, kind of like round-a-bouts near us except square or rectangular. The guide said that they were laid out in that fashion to let people take a break in the heat of the summer and have a seat on a quiet bench.  Many of the squares/parks didn’t have many people in them and it was nice just sitting there and catching the breeze, look at the trees. If you remember from our trip to Ocala, I LOVE the Spanish moss in the trees and capturing them in infrared.

Watering the River

We only got to spend a few hours on the tour, and walking. We stopped at a place called Spanky’s https://www.spankysriverstreet.com/ the bartender was great, funny, personable and kept up with everyone. They claim to be the home of the original chicken fingers.  So of course we got some, they were good, not very big like we were told and I wasn’t a fan of the potatoes called Spanky’s Spuds, I found them a bit soggy/greasy, but hey I ate them cause I’m not that picky and was starving.  I had a beer that was good but darned if I can remember what it was. I usually make them in Untapped but forgot sorry, next trip…

Being on the tour I didn’t as many shots of the town as I would have liked and I try not to have people in my images but I did grab a few and they are in this post.  Well that is it for now, we can’t wait to get back to Savannah and explore more. For now we are in SouthEast Georgia with an art fair in Fernandina Beach Florida this weekend, stop in if you’re in the area. https://www.shrimpfestival.com/
